In conversation with...
Luisa Mansky, working student / Project Development
What do you get to do at Midstad that you’d never learn during your studies?
“At university, you learn the theoretical basics of property project development. In practice, however, you quickly realise just how complex projects actually are. I’m directly involved in planning, decision-making and construction processes, and I get to see how different specialist departments work together on a project. Feasibility analyses here aren’t just simple maths problems. They take into account market conditions, cost trends and many other influencing factors. At the same time, I’m gaining insights into processes such as audits, coordination procedures and collaboration with external partners. It’s precisely this practical experience and understanding of the entire project workflow that’s difficult to convey through a degree course alone.”
How seriously are you taken as a working student?
“I’ve felt taken seriously right from the start. After just a short time, I was allowed to take part in internal and external meetings and contribute my own ideas. You learn an incredible amount in a short space of time that way!"
Would you like to stay at Midstad after you’ve finished your degree, and why?
“Yes, definitely. I’d be delighted to stay with the company after I’ve finished my degree. The varied projects, the opportunity to take on responsibility, and my professional development make the work particularly exciting for me.”
Andreas Gajewski, Team Lead / IT & Digital Transformation
IT in the property sector – what appeals to you about it?
“The property sector is currently undergoing an exciting transformation. What appeals to me in particular is that at Midstad, I can not only observe new technologies but also actively implement and further develop them. From cloud solutions to artificial intelligence, we use modern technologies to improve processes and further develop collaboration within the company.”
What project are you currently driving forward?
“At the moment, I’m driving forward various AI initiatives at Midstad. Together with the specialist departments, we’re developing specific use cases and exploring how artificial intelligence can be usefully applied in day-to-day work – from faster information retrieval and the automation of routine tasks to more efficient collaboration.”
What makes your day-to-day work so varied?
“My job combines day-to-day operations with the opportunity to actively help shape the future of the company. Of course, this includes ensuring stable and secure IT operations. At the same time, I work with our team on projects that drive Midstad’s digital development. From modern collaboration and cloud technologies to artificial intelligence, we’re creating solutions that simplify the day-to-day work of our colleagues.”
Aliena Trillig, Team Lead / Project Development
Which project has really challenged you recently, and why?
“I’m particularly drawn to projects that aren’t off-the-peg and come with their own unique challenges. A good example is the design and integration of the Event Space in Frankfurt, where we aim to facilitate sport, events and concerts in a multi-purpose hall. Projects in their very early stages, before they’ve even properly got off the ground, are also particularly exciting. The first step here is to identify all the framework conditions and stakeholders and bring them together.”
How much creative freedom do you have?
“We have a great deal of creative freedom at Midstad; we can contribute our own ideas at any time and integrate them into the projects together – both in the development of usage concepts and in the strategic direction of the projects. Thanks to the flat hierarchies, you can take on responsibility, coordinate decisions quickly and actively drive issues forward.”
What distinguishes project development at Midstad from that of a traditional project developer?
“Midstad always develops property within the context of its surroundings. The focus is on the question of what added value a project creates for the location and its people. We combine economic objectives with high-quality urban design and sustainable usage concepts, which we also validate with the help of various research initiatives. Compared to traditional project developers, we take a more holistic view of projects across their entire life cycle, considering opportunities for third-party use (More-Use), whilst always keeping the identity of the location in mind.”
