Projekt
Midstad Aachen
Located in the heart of Aachen city centre, between Adalbertstraße and Reihstraße, the approximately 3,000 m² site is home to our Midstad Aachen project. The former Wehmeyer site has stood vacant for many years and is now set to be transformed into a vibrant and future-ready urban development. The aim is to reactivate the vacant site, create new connections through the area and develop an attractive destination for the city centre.
A modern mixed-use quarter is planned, combining flexible residential concepts, restaurants and retail. The architecture will open the site up to the city, enhance the quality of the public realm and provide space for a variety of residential formats. Sustainability, flexibility and a vibrant sense of community are at the heart of the project.
Architectural competition
To find the best solution for this distinctive location, an architectural competition has been launched involving four renowned architecture practices. Their proposals build on the findings of a previous student competition organised by Midstad in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University and will be assessed by a panel of experts.
- Bovenbouw Architectuur, Antwerpen
- CROSS Architecture, Aachen
- KRESINGS, Münster/Düsseldorf
- UNStudio, Amsterdam
